LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Every Christmas they gather at the corner of Woodland and Wilson Avenues in West Louisville. The names on the plaque are the reasons why.

"Aaron Shields was our son, all of them was our sons," explained Aaron's parents.

On December 18, 2008, brothers Marc, Jamar, Demar Claybrooks and their friends Aaron Shields were coming home from a Youth Alive event in Smoketown. Program staff put them in a car with a 16-year-old who was driving a stolen vehicle. When police chased him, the driver fled which led them to the crash.

"It's not a pretty sight. Nobody wants to come and see their son in the ground each and every day," said Andrew Shields, Aaron's brother. "Nobody wants to do that, nobody."

Andrew and his parents, Robin and Frankie, laid a wreath at the corner where a memorial reaches into the sky.

On the ground, people looked for a healing touch.

"For one thing, we hope that more families come and unite here instead of the tragedy of where they lost a loved one."

The group said an end to the violence and crime starts with them. Knowing their neighbors and looking out for their children.

"And before we worry about our neighbor's household, help us God to put out house in order. It's in Jesus' name we pray and everybody."
