LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - When the University of Louisville Cardinal football team takes on the Miami Hurricanes in the Russell Athletic Bowl Saturday night, they will not be without their fans.

Around 5 a.m. Friday, dozens of students and fans arrived to Papa John's Cardinal Stadium with luggage in tow.

After loading bags beneath several charter buses and signing in, the fans nestled into their seats ready for the twelve hour ride ahead.

"We are headed off to the bowl game in Orlando, Florida," said Cardinal fan Tracy Johnson.

Excitement filled each bus as fans shouted out chants and rooted on the #18 Cards.

"I'm too busy thinking about the Florida weather," said UofL junior Matthew McGavic after acknowledging he had forgotten to pack a jacket.

"This is what we do," began Cardinal fan Chad Brown. "We win. We go to bowl games."

Win or lose in Orlando, Friday morning many fans said the trip--in and of itself--created a win-win situation.

"You get to meet all the Cardinal fans that you haven't met before," said Brown.

Students said the good time came at a good price.

"You got to ride down there, the hotel, and the ticket for just $90," said McGavic.

Getting to the Sunshine State, however, will take time. With their destination nearly 860 miles away, many fans had a game plan on how to pass the time.

"I have my iPad," began Johnson. "I have my Kindle. So, I'm ready."

Many other fans said they planned to sleep through the drive, hoping to conserve their energy to help cheer the Cards to victory when they take the field Saturday night.

The weekend match up between the Cards and Hurricanes will be a preview of what's to come with it being the Cardinals' last game before joining the Hurricanes in the ACC next season. Game time is Saturday, December 28 at 6:45p.m.
