Owensboro man arrested for smuggling heroin in jail

An Owensboro man was arrested on Friday after officials at the Daviess County Detention Center received information from an inmate that heroin would be smuggled into the jail.

Jail deputies arrested 48-year-old Daniel Kennedy, of Owensboro, who they say brought in approximately three grams of suspected heroin concealed in a cigarette pack into the public lobby.

An inmate trusty went to retrieve the cigarette pack after it was placed in a trash container in a restroom.

When jail deputies searched Kennedy, they found more heroin and several hundred dollars of cash hidden in his sock.

Kennedy was accompanied by a minor who was picked up by the Department of Community Based Services.

Kennedy was arrested and charged with:

  • Two counts of promoting contraband in the 1st degree
  • Trafficking of controlled substance in the 1st degree
  • Possession of controlled substance in the 1st degree
