LMPD: No roadblocks, increased patrols this New Year's Eve

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - As you make your plans for New Year's Eve police want to make sure you're not forgetting a key part - a sober driver.

The Louisville Metro Police Department revealed their plan to keep drunk drivers off the road and this year it does not include roadblocks.

Instead police will be increasing their patrols, focusing on main corridors such as Dixie Highway, Shelbyville Road and Bardstown Road, in addition to highways and interstates.

The same plan was used in 2012 and police believe it was a success.

LMPD Sergeant Ruby Ellison said each year across the country there are 10,000 DUI crashes and added New Year's Eve is the deadliest day to be on the roads.

Luckily, there were no fatal crashes on Metro roads during the 2012 New Year's holiday.
