LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A woman is recovering from smoke inhalation after an early morning fire engulfed a detached garage in Lyndon.

MetroSafe dispatchers received the 911 call around 4 a.m. Saturday to a home in the 1800 block of Pershing Avenue.

Major. Battalion Chief Richard Baker said crews treated a woman on the scene who was outside at the time.

"One of the residents inhaled smoke while they were out trying to clear some valuables away from the area and due to that, and the cold, she became overcome so we had EMS check her out," Baker said.

Another person who lives across the street alerted neighbors to get out of their homes who live near the detached garage. Intense heat from the fire burned siding on a neighboring house. The fire destroyed one car and damaged another.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
