LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The last thing you want to do is start off 2014 with a DUI.

If you've been drinking and get behind the wheel Louisville Metro police said they will not hesitate to put you behind bars.

Officers said they will be patrolling main thoroughfares like Bardstown Road, Shelbyville Road and Dixie Highway.

As for Kentucky State Police?

KSP Trooper Barrett Brewer said, "New Year's Eve there's actually an influx of traffic on the Commonwealth's roadways. A lot of people are traveling out of state or back into the state from going to visit their families as well as going to parties."

WAVE 3 News was there for the ride with state police Tuesday night as troopers began pulling over for speeding and kept an eye out for drunk drivers.

KSP pulled one man driving a Volkswagen over for a suspected DUI off Interstate 71, near Campbellsburg. During the stop the man failed a sobriety test and troopers found an open container of beer in his vehicle.

KSP had sobriety checkpoints setup throughout the state.
