LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – All across Louisville Metro, signs listing homes "For Sale" can be seen. One of those sits in front of Cori Hash's home in Audubon.

"It's been on the market for about three weeks now," she explained.

The housing market is hot this winter.

"We've had a lot of interest," Hash said. "In the first week we had five or six showings."

Hash isn't the only one that's optimistic. The latest housing report from the Greater Louisville Realtors Association shows almost 14,000 homes sold in 2013, with 1,122 sales in November alone. That's more than an 11 percent increase compared to last year.

"The mortgage industry is alive and well. We continue to lend every single day," said Steve Adams of the Mortgage Banking Group.

Adams has seen an uptick in the number of people buying homes for the first time.

"I think some of the apprehension is being lifted, consumers are smarter than they were in the past," said Adams. "Everyone's on Google doing searches, they're checking with their mortgage companies."

Adams hopes more people will start to realize that they too could buy a home.

"I hear it once a day, five times a day, the banks don't want to lend, the mortgage companies don't want to lend, and that's simply not true," he said.

Adams said homes in the $120,000 range are going fast while low interest rates are also helping.

While Hash's home is in a higher price bracket, the trend is still reason for optimism as she plans for her open house this Sunday.
