SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

Four people living in a Scottsdale duplex escaped injury after an attic fire late Wednesday night.

Residents smelled smoke and heard a bang in the attic before the fire was reported about 10 p.m. in an area near Pima and McDowell roads, said Scottsdale Fire Capt. Dave Folio.

Firefighters found a hot spot in one of the bedrooms below an air-conditioning unit and the fire was found in the attic. Folio said firefighters quickly put the fire out.

No injuries were reported and the cause was under investigation, but firefighters initially believed it was electrical in nature, Folio said.

He said the damaged area was boarded up and the residents allowed to return.
