EL PASO, TX (CBS5) -

A border crosser was turned over to federal authorities after 1 pound of methamphetamine was found strapped to her body on New year's Day.

The seizure was made shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Bridge of the Americas international crossing in El Paso.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers said a pedestrian entered the facility and during an interview and inspection, an officer noticed an unusual bulge in the lower back area of the traveler.

CBP officers located two bundles of methamphetamine strapped to the back of the pedestrian. The drugs weighed 1.15 pounds.

Melissa Kay Villar, 33, of Wichita, KS, was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents to face charges in connection with the failed drug smuggling attempt.
