LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - It is outrageous that the agency charged to protect children in the Commonwealth of Kentucky placed its own interests over children, repeatedly violated court orders, and willfully circumvented requirements of the Open Records Act, according to a circuit court judge, who gave taxpayers an unwanted Christmas gift last week that will cost nearly a million dollars.
That's right, our tax dollars that fund the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services will now be used in part to pay penalties for the violations of the agency, instead of providing the services it is supposed to offer.
Money was already tight to provide the needed services for child care for the working poor and senior citizen programs. Now it will be tighter.
The judge chastised the agency for refusing to release public records to shield their own conduct and negligence from public scrutiny.
That is about as bad as it gets.
The governor and state legislators need to clean house and regain control over this agency and make sure it operates by the law, and for the people who pay their bills.
