CHARLESTOWN, IN (WAVE) - An undercover narcotics investigation developed into a murder-for-hire case in Clark County, Indiana and led to a Charlestown man's arrest on Thursday.

Charlestown police said their department's special response and K-9 teams were assisted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in arresting Kristopher Lee Washington, 23, around 9:30 Thursday night.

Police said the case began approximately two weeks earlier as an undercover narcotics sting inside a Charlestown apartment complex.

Washington is accused of trying to solicit someone inside the complex to kill a person related to a pending drug case in Clark County.

Police executed a search warrant on Washington's apartment where officers located evidence related to the case.

Washington is charged with conspiracy to commit murder, felony possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, prohibited sale of a firearm to a convicted felon, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, neglect of a dependent, dealing in marijuana to a recipient under 18 years of age, maintaining a common nuisance dealing in marijuana and possession of marijuana.

Investigators did not release any additional information about the case.
