Warming shelters opening across Kentuckiana

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – With winter temperatures hitting a low Kentuckiana hasn't seen in years, special precautions are being taken to help those who need a warm place to stay safe.

Here is a list of warming shelters being into effect during the inclement weather:

1: Pritchard Community Center: Beginning on Sunday, January 5 at 5:00 p.m. through Tuesday, January 7 depending on need. According to the Elizabethtown Fire Department, the shelter will be open to anyone in need and may continue through Tuesday depending on weather and occupants. That address is 404 S. Mulberry Street in Elizabethtown. For any questions, please contact Elizabethtown Fire Headquarters at (270) 765-2121 or (270) 765-2122.

2: The City of New Albany is working to keep residents safe and warm. The New Albany Police Department will have additional patrols out through the storm. If any residents are in need of temporary shelter due to the cold temperatures, please contact Emergency Management at (812) 948-5454.

3: Lake Dreamland Fire Department will open Monday as a warming station according to their chief. The address is 4603 Cane Run Road and will be open at 7 a.m.
