A Columbia house was destroyed by fire Monday, and the effort to fight the fire may have caused some problems for drivers in the area.

The fire was reported at a home in the 3500 block of Highway 431, and shortly after firefighters arrived, the home's roof collapsed.

No injuries have been reported in the fire.

Fire crews from several jurisdictions are assisting the Maury County Fire Department, which is using tankers to shuttle water from the intersection of Ash Hill Road and Highway 431 to help extinguish the fire.

Water splashing from the tankers has spilled onto Highway 431 en route to the fire, causing ice to form, so the Tennessee Department of Transportation was called to salt the road. Still, drivers are urged to find an alternate route home Monday afternoon.

The fire apparently started in a wood stove, and the American Red Cross said it is helping provide assistance to the family of four who lived at the home.
