LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – More than 1,000 reports of power outages kept LG&E crews busy Monday morning and as temperatures dropped throughout the night calls and usage continued to increase.

As of 10:35 p.m. LG&E said they were experiencing high energy and gas demand and asked customers to voluntary conserve energy in their homes by using the following tips;

  • Turn off any lights and appliances that are not in use
  • Make sure the registers are open in your home and make sure that nothing is covering them
  • Instead of using a stove, use a slow cooker or microwave to warm food
  • Close dampers on your fireplace if you are not using the fire place
  • Add extra blankets to beds and wear layers of warm clothing
  • Open curtains, drapes and/or blinds during the day to allow the sun to heat your home and close them at night to retain heat
  • Adjust thermostats to the lowest comfortable setting
  • Use draft stoppers
  • Only run dishwashers, dryers and washing machines when they are full
