LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A strange coincidence led to the unraveling of a crime on Saturday, according to Louisville Metro police.

"It's really crazy and all I can say is God is great," said Valerie Vogedes, victim.

On Monday it was a sigh of relief for Vogedes. Saturday morning panic set in when she realized a debit card, she used just the night before was gone.

Vogedes says after using the card at an ATM she took her daughter to a Girl Scout event.

"I dropped her off at the church, I did not lock my vehicle, so I'm not really sure if it fell out, which I don't think so, so it had to be there. That's the only thing I can think of," said Vogedes.

As she was ready to search her truck, she got a phone call from her cousin.

"So I answered it and she was like are you missing a card? And I was like as a matter of fact, I think I am," said Vogedes.

Turns out Vogedes has two cousins who work at a Penn Station on Preston Highway. On Saturday, police say Nicole Snyder, 28, her daughter and mother stopped in for lunch.

As Vogedes' cousin was printing Snyder's receipt, she noticed the name. "It had my name on it which is kind of a unique name," said Vogedes.

Snyder's nearly $30 bill cleared and the three sat down to eat. After Vogedes' cousin realized the card was stolen she called police.

"I called my bank and then I got in the car and headed that way because I wanted to find out and I wanted to see her to see if recognized her and if I knew her, but I didn't recognize her at all," said Snyder.

Before police questioned Snyder they say she flushed the stolen card down the toilet. She then showed investigators a different card, but the numbers didn't match the receipt.

"I'm just grateful that my cousin checked the name on that card when people check my name on card, I thank them because there are so many people that just swipe the card and don't pay attention," said Vogedes.

Snyder is charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, tampering with physical evidence and failure to notify the Department of Transportation about a change of address.
