LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man stole a car outside a Louisville convenience store, tried to hit the car's owner as he drove away, and then led police on a chase before crashing, according to an arrest report.

Police said George Crawford, 31, got into a woman's car after she left it running, unlocked and unoccupied on December 31, 2013 outside the Stop-N-Go at 427 Warnock Street. As Crawford drove out of the parking lot, police said, he swerved as if trying to strike the victim as she ran outside in an effort to stop Crawford from stealing her car.

A short time later, Crawford was involved in a police pursuit in Clark County, Indiana. He crashed into two telephone poles, causing extensive damage to the victim's car and the utility poles. Police said Crawford admitted to having just stolen the vehicle.

Crawford is charged with theft by unlawful taking and first-degree wanton endangerment.
