LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Technology will help remind residents to unload their junk with a simple text or email reminder.

Monday Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer announced a system to alert people who live in the urban services district to set out bulk waste or junk at the curb.

The goal is to make neighborhoods cleaner and safer while cutting down on the number of calls to 311 about the service.

"There's going to be an additional junk pickup this year. That's thanks to Metro Council's earmark of $400,000 increase to the budget. So we'll be going from two to three pickups, so that's good since this is a popular thing for us to be doing," Fischer said.

Bulk waste includes items like tires, appliances and tree stumps. If you want to sign up for the reminder service or to learn more about junk pick up days, click here.
