LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The man accused of murdering a fellow Kroger employee outside the St. Matthews store where they worked was charged Monday with a separate crime at the supermarket.

According to an arrest report, Aaron Cross, 18, manually entered a fraudulent discount code to obtain steep discounts for the purchase of products at the store between October 24 and December 17, 2013. Cross was a cashier and bagger at the Kroger on Hubbards Lane.

Police said Cross selected merchandise that he or another employee would bring to the checkout counter. After ringing up the items, Cross would enter the discount code, significantly reducing the price of the items, the report states.

An internal audit and surveillance video helped uncover the plot, which cost the store $566.

Cross is charged with theft by unlawful taking in this case. He is also charged with murder and robbery in the death of 34-year-old Jack Combs who was shot in the chest while walking to his car behind the Kroger store on November 23. Cross was arrested for those crimes on January 10 while he was already behind bars for a third crime -- the January 9 armed robbery of a liquor store in the Lynnview neighborhood.
