Observation in investigation led to SWAT response in Valley Station

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Detectives running an investigation in Valley Station late Tuesday morning called in a SWAT team and hostage negotiators after something caught their eye, according to a Louisville Metro Police Department spokeswoman.

Carey Klain said the SWAT team and hostage negotiators were called after the situation began unfolding before 11 a.m. Tuesday in the 6000 block of Riverdale Road.

A swarm of police, the SWAT team and hostage negotiators who accompany SWAT to potential crime scenes established a staging area at a shopping center on Dixie Highway at Bethany Lane across from Bethany Memorial Cemetery, alarming many who were in the area at the time.

According to Klain, shortly after units began to arrive on the scene the people inside the residence on Riverdale Road exited the house and were detained.

Klain said the investigation did not occur at the shopping center, it was a staging area only.

SWAT and hostage negotiators left the scene around 12:15 p.m. while detectives spoke to the individuals involved.

Whether or not charged were placed against the people inside the home is unclear at this time.
