Sunrise To Go: Wednesday January 15

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Here are 10 things Kentuckiana will be talking about today:

1. Snowflakes fall as temps drop – You're going to feel the chill today as temperatures are held down in the 20s and wind chills make it seems like it's in the teens. The WAVE 3 News Storm Tracking Team is monitoring a cold weekend ahead.

2. Fatal fire ruled arson – The house fire that took the lives of three young children in New Albany has been ruled arson. The suspect is a teenager who is also accused of crashing into a police cruiser head-on during a chase four days after the fire.

3. Smoking ban – Today, the Bullitt County Fiscal Court is expected to vote on an ordinance that would ban tobacco use in buildings and workplaces. The court is looking to override a policy enacted by the Board of Health because the two entities have taken issue with which one of them can rightfully enact the law.

4. Search for suspects – Police are looking for two men in two unrelated bank robberies earlier this week. Take a look at their surveillance photos.

5. JCPS application deadline todayToday is the last day to turn in applications for students wishing to enter or move schools within JCPS. The previous deadline of January 10 was extended because of last week's inclement weather.

6. Voting rights for felons – A rally at the state capitol today will support the restoration of voting rights for felony offenders who have served their time. US Senator Rand Paul has spoken out in support of bills before the state legislature that would secure voting rights for felons. WAVE 3 News Reporter Theo Keith will monitor other political happenings in the capitol as the Kentucky General Assembly meets today.

7. MLK birthday – In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., Service for Peace will begin work at Liberty Bible Baptist Church at 245 S 41st St at 7 a.m. today. Volunteers with Service for Peace are working with $17,000 worth of donated materials to build a food pantry and computer lab as well as restore a kitchen, among other things.

8. Charity bartending challenge – Food Network star and local girl Damaris Phillips will team up with Feast BBQ and Down One Bourbon Bar for a charity bartending challenge this evening at 7 p.m.

9. Governor's Mansion documentary – The Kentucky Governor's Mansion turns 100 years old this month, and a documentary about it premieres tonight in Frankfort. The documentary features historical re-enactments and interviews with former governors and their families, and is narrated by Kentucky native Diane Sawyer.

10. Bridge blasting – Blasting to prepare for the new tunnel in east Louisville is scheduled today at about 11:30 a.m. and again at around 2:15 p.m. Traffic on KY 841 and U.S. 42 will be stopped before and during the blasting events. Blasting is also scheduled to prepare for the East End Crossing in Indiana on Utica-Sellersburg Road, near the Brookhollow subdivision around 4 p.m. which will affect traffic.
