Police: Pantsless man tried to board school bus

LANE COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

Police arrested a man on Interstate 5 northbound on Tuesday afternoon after they say he intentionally hit a school bus with his car, then tried to board it while not wearing pants.

State police first received a report of a man who stopped his car in front of a Creswell School District school bus on I-5 around 1:45 p.m.

Oregon State Police say the school bus driver closed the door to prevent 38-year-old Jonathan Modesitt from entering, so Modesitt got back in his car and drove off, refusing to stop when police tried to pull him over near the town of Creswell.

They say Modesitt eventually crashed his 2003 Volkswagen GTI through a fence and into a body of water, where his car sank.

Modesitt later got out of the car and came to shore, and troopers took him into custody without further incident.

Officers say there were no children on the bus at the time of the incident, but there were two adults. They were not hurt.

Troopers say Modesitt sideswiped another car during the chase.

Modesitt is being held in the Lane County Jail on the following charges: driving under the influence, felony attempt to elude, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person, misdemeanor hit-and-run, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and felon in possession of a firearm.
