Snow across WAVE Country causing slick roads

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A late morning snow shower has caused slick roads and several accidents across Louisville Metro and surrounding counties.

According to MetroSafe, a Louisville Metro police officer working an accident on the Watterson Expressway (I-264) at Westport Road had to jump over the median wall to avoid being hit by another car that lost control. No one was injured in either accident.

Other accidents related to the weather were reported on the Watterson at Dixie Highway, The Gene Snyder Freeway (KY 841) at Stonestreet Road and N. Hurstbourne Parkway at LaGrange Road.

Portions of U.S. 42 are reported to be slippery. State highway road crews have been called out to apply salt to the roadway.

In southern Indiana WAVE 3 News reporter Janelle MacDonald says drivers are making a slow go of it and are experiencing slick spots on the snow covered roads.

The Oldham County Police Department tells WAVE 3 News Interstate 71 is open, but traffic is moving slowly. Police urge drivers to reduce their speed and increase the stopping distance between your vehicle and the one ahead of you.
