A look back at the storm of '94

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - On the night of January 16, 1994 freezing rain began to fall and soon changed to heavy snow, dropping a record-breaking 15.9 inches in Louisville.

Record-breaking lows followed with temperatures dipping down to -37 degrees in Shelbyville, Kentucky and -36 degrees in Indiana.

For five days, five Kentucky interstates were shut down. Flights were grounded and hundreds of vehicles were stranded along the highways as city and state crews worked for a week to clear the roads.

Two people died as a result of the storm and 42,000 customers were without power for an entire week.
