Body of woman found in west Louisville identified

According to Alicia Smiley, Metro Police Public Information Officer, a passerby found the body of a white female, possibly in her teens or early twenties, behind a residence near the flood wall by the river. LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A body found early Friday morning in West Louisville has now been identified by the Coroner's office as 24 year old Kristine Pierson. 

Police were dispatched to the 800 block of North 33rd Street and Rudd Avenue around 1:45.

According to Alicia Smiley, Metro Police Public Information Officer, a passerby found Pierson's body near the flood wall by the river.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said her body sustained trauma which is the reason the case is being treated as a homicide. As of Friday night, police were still treating the case as a homicide investigation but the coroner's office tells WAVE 3 they are treating the case as a death investigation.  That office says it's results were inconclusive and that's why it's a death investigation. 

Investigators are speaking with the person who found the body as well as residents in the area.  Anyone with information is asked to call 574-LMPD.
