Sunrise to Go: Friday, January 17

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Here are 10 things Kentuckiana will be talking about today:

1: Snowy Start: Winter weather could not hit at a worse time for Kentuckiana commuters. Light snow accumulation could cause a slippery situation around rush hour, so drivers beware.

2: Closings: With some area schools going into delays or cancellations, check here for the latest information before you head out the door.

3: 1994: Though we are seeing a bit of snow across WAVE Country this morning, it's nothing like the winter storm of '94. WAVE 3 searched through archives and uncovered some old footage of the storms while many remember what they were doing 20 years ago during the inclement weather.

4: Winter Car: Winterizing your car is important in inclement weather and it's not too late! Check out some tips to keep you and your vehicle safe!

5: Body Found: The body of a young woman was found overnight in West Louisville. Police were on the scene around 1:45 a.m. and homicide detectives are investigating.

6: Instagram: JCPS officials are investigating reports concerning several inappropriate pictures that were posted on a social media site. JCPS spokesman Ben Jackey says on Thursday the district became aware there are Instagram pages dedicated to inappropriate pictures of JCPS high school girls.

7: No Proof, No Ticket: A Kentucky lawmaker wants to do away with penalties for drivers caught without proof of insurance. Rep. Ken Upchurch, R-Monticello, said he had heard from insured Kentuckians who had to fight traffic tickets, even though police officers were able to see the drivers were insured through their squad car computer systems.

8: Pay Up: Kentucky State University has allowed students to spread out payments for tuition, fees and fines. But administrators say some students aren't meeting the repayment schedule, so they'll be thrown out if they don't meet their requirements Friday.

9: Louisville Win – Wayne Blackshear scored 23 points last night and No. 18 Louisville used a strong offensive start to blow out Houston 91-52 at the KFC Yum! Center.

10. Bridge blasting – Blasting to prepare for the new tunnel in east Louisville is scheduled today at about 11:30 a.m. and again at around 2:15 p.m. Traffic on KY 841 and U.S. 42 will be stopped before and during the blasting events. Blasting is also scheduled to prepare for the East End Crossing in Indiana on Utica-Sellersburg Road, near the Brookhollow subdivision around 4 p.m. which will affect traffic. Each week there's major construction going on related to the bridges project, make sure you Know Before You Go.
