Gilbert schools lockdown lifted, but hunt for suspects continues

Gilbert police used additional police units to facilitate the release of students from two elementary schools that were on lockdown during a hunt for two robbery suspects Friday afternoon.

The Gilbert Police Department tweeted that the schools impacted are Towne Meadows Elementary and Carol Ray Ranch Elementary, both in the area of Houston Avenue and Recker Road.

The lockdowns were lifted about 3:45 p.m. but the hunt for the suspects continued, according to the GPD Twitter feed.

Police were looking for a man and woman, both in their 20s, who possibly took two handguns from a residence in that area, according to the Twitter feed.

The woman was described as white with blond hair in a ponytail, wearing a black-strap shirt with a hooded sweatshirt around her waist.

The man was described as white, with facial hair and a mullet, wearing a Green Bay Packers shirt and possibly a black jacket.
