LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A woman's family is asking for answers after her body was found early Friday morning in West Louisville.

Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Sam Weakley said Kristine Pierson's body was discovered by a passerby near the Ohio River flood walls at the intersection of North 33rd Street and Rudd Avenue around 1:45 a.m. Pierson was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Louisville Metro Police Department spokesperson Alicia Smiley, officers are continuing to investigate the 24-year-old's death as a homicide, stating her body showed obvious signs of trauma.

Weakley said Pierson's autopsy results were inconclusive and they are awaiting toxicity results. For now the coroners office is classifying the case as a death investigation.

Court records show in 2013 Pierson sought Emergency Protective Orders against two different men she had prior domestic violence issues with.

Pierson's mother, Cheryl Browning, released photos of her daughter in hopes someone might have information about her death.

Anyone with information concerning Pierson's death is asked to call the LMPD anonymous tip line at (502) 574-LMPD.
