JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) – Vandals strike a church, ransacking it and flooding it out.

"Somebody had turned the valve wide open and the water was shooting straight across," parishioner, Harold White said.

Members of the Indiana Avenue Christian Church in Jeffersonville spent hours cleaning up and taking in all that had been taken out Saturday.

The projector was stripped from the ceiling, and the organ's plug was snipped.

The office of the former pastor, Drumondo Simpson was also turned upside down.

"When you are in a hurry, you break stuff and there it is," White said.

The former pastor's pictures were gone, along with the TV.

Church board member, Theodora Ellis says the doors were locked. She thinks the vandalism was out of spite.

"Makes no kind of sense," she said. "Not to call yourself a Christian."

They called police. Detectives are looking into the crime while parishioners look into their hearts.

"Being mad at who did this is not going to help us whatsoever," White explained.

Despite the mess, Ellis is bent that evil won't be able to stop the service.

"The good lord give me one more day, we will be having service right up in here," Ellis said.
