MESA, AZ (CBS5) -

Mesa police said they captured a home invasion suspect who claimed to have smoked methamphetamine before telling police he was being chased by someone with a shotgun.

Curtis Phillip Archer, 23, was caught by police as he ran from the back of a house in the area of Thomas and Power roads about 5:45 a.m. Saturday, according to a Mesa police report.

A man called officers moments earlier to report someone kicked in his front door, walked into his home, told him he had a gun and then stood in his house while the man called police. The victim said he didn't see a gun, according to the report.

The suspect ran and police started searching the area and an officer said he heard glass breaking at a nearby house, according to the report.

As officers began to surround the house, Archer ran down the driveway and was captured at gunpoint, according to the report.

Officers found Archer's wallet in the backyard and his backpack on an upstairs balcony of the house accessed by an outdoor staircase, according to the report.

The original victim identified Archer as the man in his home, according to the report.

Archer told officers he was being chased by a person with a shotgun and that he was looking for a place to hide, and also admitted smoking meth earlier in the evening.

He was the booked into the Mesa Jail for felony and misdemeanor criminal trespass, four counts of disorderly conduct and two counts of criminal damage.
