LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE)
– The Jefferson County Sheriff's
Department is warning residents of a new phone scam targeting the elderly.
According to JCSD
Col. Carl Yates, scam artists are calling residents and telling them they have
missed jury duty and a warrant has been issued for their arrest. The caller
then tells the person they can avoid being arrested if they purchase a $1,000
cash card by giving the caller the numbers off of a credit card.
Col. Yates said the
JCSO never asks for money over the phone. If you believe you may have been a
target of the scam you can contact JCSO by calling (502) 574-5400.
