RADCLIFF, KY (WAVE) – A man who was hit and killed when he stopped to help a wrecked motorist Monday night has been identified.
Hardin County Deputy Coroner Ken Spankenberger said David Vittitoe, 23, of Lebanon Junction, was driving home with his girlfriend heading east on Highway 313 around 8:30 p.m.
On his way home he saw a wrecked motorist whose vehicle was damaged from hitting a deer. Vittitoe got out of his truck and told his girlfriend to stay inside the vehicle and flash the lights to warn traffic.
While he was out of his truck another vehicle that was also heading east came over a hill in the road and hit him.
Spankenberger said Vittitoe, who was 11 miles away from his home, died on impact.
The coroner's office said the oncoming driver did not see Vittitoe and they are calling his death a "very tragic wreck." No charges are expected to be filed against the driver.
Funeral arrangements for Vittitoe will be held at Kappel Funeral Home in Lebanon Junction.
