LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A trip from Hardin County to Louisville became one of terror for a woman after she said the man she was riding with was trying to kill them both.

A Louisville Metro Police arrest report says the woman was traveling with Matthew T. Jessel, 28, of Louisville when Jessel threatened to kill them both by driving into a tanker truck or an overpass.

Police records suggest Jessel swerved across lanes of traffic as he drove. The report says Jessel also attacked the woman. At one point, the woman opened the door in an attempt to get out of the moving car while it was still on I-65.

The woman tried to signal her mother, who was following the couple to Louisville in another car, to get help. When the mother called her daughter's cell phone, Jessel refused to let the woman answer and took the phone from her.

Jessel was arrested after he drove to Our Lady of Nazareth Home on Newburg Road and fled next door to Our Lady of Peace Hospital. He is charged with domestic violence assault and unlawful imprisonment. Jessel will be arraigned on January 23.
