Bus carrying Bellarmine basketball team involved in crash

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A bus carrying Bellarmine University Men's Basketball team was involved in a crash on Interstate 65.

A Bellarmine official said the team was traveling north on I-65 Wednesday, between Renssaeler and Chicago, when a truck hauling a trailer in front of the bus jack-knifed and hit the bus.

The bus was traveling about 50 miles per hour at the time of the crash.

Luckily, no one on board the bus was injured and the bus was left with minor damage.

A news release from Ballarmine says the truck that hit the bus did not stop and that the wreck has been ruled a hit-and-run.

The Knights were on their way to Merrillville, Indiana to stay the night before their game on Thursday in Kenosha, Wisconsin against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

The players were to be picked up by a bus driven from Indianapolis and continue the rest of their trip Thursday.

Officials said the players from Bellarmine's women's team were on a separate bus and were not involved in the crash. The women arrived in Wisconsin Wednesday evening.
