Man asks for ride, holds up driver

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Louisville Metro Police have made an arrest in the robbery of a Good Samaritan. Matthew A. Cotton, 19, is charged with holding up a man who gave in a ride.

According to the arrest report, Cotton approached a man on the night of January 19 at a store in the 400 block of Warnock Street. After getting a ride to a Motel 6, the victim said Cotton indicated he had a gun and pushed the gun into the victim's side.

Cotton forced the man to drive to an ATM and withdraw cash. The victim said Cotton also took his iPhone 5 along with his wallet and the cash inside.

Police said the victim was able to identify Cotton as the person who robbed him and that Cotton gave a taped statement admitting to the crime.

Cotton is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections on one count of robbery.
