A suspect fled the Hazelton, PA area after he found out he was wanted on several drug charges that were filed following a lengthy investigation.
Juan Thomas Vidal, 33, was charged with being a fugitive from justice after he was found in Holyoke Friday morning.
U.S. Marshals in Pennsylvania were pursuing leads in several states including Massachusetts. When authorities searched Vidal's daughter's residence at 551 South Bridge St., they discovered the 6'4", 250-pound fugitive hiding in her bedroom closet, according to Dave Milne of the U.S. Marshals Service. He was taken into custody without incident.
Vidal's charges in Pennsylvania included seven counts of possession with intent to manufacture or deliver heroin and cocaine and an arrest warrant was issued based on the narcotics charges.
Vidal was transported to the Holyoke Police Department and will wait there to be extradited to Pennsylvania.
"It was a great collaborative effort of federal, state and local law enforcement authorities in capturing this drug fugitive. We are committed to assisting our partners in the efforts of eradicating illegal drug distribution off of the streets of Western Massachusetts," U.S. Marshal John Gibbons said.
The U.S. Marshals Service Task Force is a team comprised of investigators and law enforcement officers from the Springfield U.S. Marshal's office, Springfield and West Springfield police departments and the Hampden County Sheriff's Department, Milne said. Those departments work closely with the State Police Violent Fugitive Team, he said.
