Transformer explosion closes Salvation Army Campus

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A transformer explosion has caused a local shelter to be out of commission for as long as three days.

According to a press release, the explosion occurred around 1 p.m. outside The Salvation Army's M.A.L.E. Campus. The building is without heat and the center doesn't have the ability to prepare meals for the homeless.

Electrical contractors said the repairs could take up to three days to complete. The outage affects both the men's and women's shelter, roughly 125 beds and nearly 400 people who count on the shelter for a hot meal each day.

Wayside Christian Mission has agreed to help by taking in those who are seeking shelter and additional mattresses have been provided.
