Firefighters responded to a basement fire on Saturday morning.
It happened at a townhouse on Tokeneke Road around 10:45 a.m.
Capt. Anthony Cerruti of the Holyoke Fire Department told CBS 3 that crews saw smoke when they first arrived.
They were then able to locate and extinguish the fire in the basement.
The cause remains under investigation.
The homeowners are staying with friends and family. Cerruti said the family's pet birds did not survive due to the smoke.
