LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Shults Tree Service is out of firewood. They already sold two and a half times as much as he did all of last winter.

"We sold out, everything we had," owner, Phillip Shults said. "It's been an awesome year for firewood for us."

He's not alone.  We called several suppliers without much luck. Meanwhile, Shuts' phone has been ringing off the hook.

"I tell them we're out, sorry," he explained. "It's the coldest winter. We'll have some for them next year."

We then we met up with Forees Tree Service as they were making a delivery.

"We've been super busy," Leon Foree explained. "Everything we split goes out the door."

Foree hasn't taken a day off while trying to cash in on the demand.

"With the temperatures staying so cold, it's been a steady flow, you know, everybody wants some," he said.

Then they headed back to the shop to prepare the last bit of firewood they have left.

We also stopped by Brownsboro Hardware.

"The firewood has been flying out because there has been a shortage," the store's owner, Jim Lehrer told WAVE 3 News.

Lehrer says he is working with several suppliers to make sure they don't run out.

"We watch the weather and see what the forecasts are going to be and try to plan accordingly," he said.

They will receive another shipment of firewood Wednesday when temperatures are expected to reach a high of 20 degrees.
