Kitchen fire gets out of control in home

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A house went up in flames on Wilshire Avenue Wednesday morning.

Metrosafe got a call about a house on fire in the 4400 block of Wilshire Avenue around 6:40 a.m.

Firefighters said the homeowner tried to handle the fire on his own but was unsuccessful, so he got out of the house and called 911.

Fire crews said it took about 30 minutes to gain control of the fire once they arrived on the scene.

According to emergency crews, the homeowner was transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation but is expected to be okay. He was the only person in the house at the time.

The fire was contained to the kitchen of the home, but the rest of the rooms sustained smoke damage, firefighters said.

Lake Dreamland Fire Department and Pleasure Ridge Park Fire Department responded to the scene.

Arson investigators checked out the scene, but officials do not suspect foul play.
