Suspect arrested for shooting that left victim paralyzed

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Police arrested a suspect in a shooting that left one victim paralyzed.

According to an arrest warrant, on January 13, Dashawn Wright, 22, and another unidentified person forced their way into an apartment where two men lived and immediately began shooting.

One resident was shot through the neck and back, police said. The other resident was forced to the ground at gun point and robbed of a wallet, car keys and cell phone.

Once the property was obtained, officers said the two suspects fled the scene in the victim's car.

After the victims reported the incident to police, the shooting victim was rushed to University Hospital where doctors determined he was paralyzed from the gunshot wound, according to the report.

Detectives spoke to witnesses to the crime who told police Wright is known as "Herb" and confirmed he used to live in the apartment complex where the incident took place and continues to visit.

Wright was arrested on January 28 and charged with robbery and attempted murder. The other man who police believe committed the crime is still at large.

A motive for the crime has not been released.
