LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A wrong-way driver is accused of crashing into a semi truck on Interstate 71 while under the influence of alcohol.

Louisville Metro police said Jess M. Inman, 27, was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of I-71 at a high rate of speed just before 1:00 Thursday morning when he slammed into the semi head-on. The accident caused a second semi to slide off the interstate into a ditch.

Inman was alert and talking when police arrived. He told officers he had been at a friend's house where he drank one beer, according to his arrest report.

Police said Inman punched an EMS worker while being helped into the back of an ambulance for transport to a hospital. The extent of Inman's injuries was not known. His mugshot shows him wearing a hospital gown.

No other injuries associated with the crash were reported.

Inman is charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, third-degree assault, wanton endangerment, reckless driving and failure to maintain insurance.
