PETERSBURG, KY (WAVE) - Bill Nye "the Science Guy" will face off with Ken Ham, the founder of the Creation Museum in a debate over creationism and evolution Tuesday night.
It will focus on the question: "Is creation a viable model of origins?" The debate takes place from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Nye has become an outspoken supporter of a science-based education. In 2012, he said parents were doing a disservice to their children by teaching them creationism.
"He's a well-known, highly respected personality," Ham said. "I think this is going to bring the creation-evolution issue to the public in a way that hasn't been done in a long time."
Nye appeared in a 2012 video produced by the media group Big Think, in which he said the world becomes "fantastically complicated" for people who don't believe in evolution.
"If you want to deny evolution and live in your world that's completely inconsistent with everything we observe in the universe, that's fine -- but don't make your kids do it," Nye said in the video. "We need them. We need scientifically literate voters and taxpayers for the future."
