LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Many of you took exception to our editorial this week advocating the increase of the minimum wage.
Karen Boon emailed: "The Holistic litmus test of looking at the entire economy and the entire population and seriously debating what effect any change would have on both, should always be satisfied before any law or regulation is written. When minimum wage is increased, the increase brings that wage close to the next level of employees, therefore their wage must be increased. Their increase gets close to the next level of employees, and on and on. Are we going to do what is best for our struggling economy and allow the free market to create jobs, therefore paying more taxes from success – or are we going to rush in and overburden businesses even further to the place where even more American jobs are lost?"
Art Davenport emailed: "We are struggling with the economy now and this will make it tougher."
And Butch Fernandez emailed: "I wonder how many of those 600,000 workers will be unemployed after the raise in the minimum wage?"
Other feedback focused on minimum wage being a start to the working world for several people, but a recent study shows more than a third of those making minimum wage are at least 40 years old, and the average age of those earning it is 35.
We appreciate and encourage all of your feedback.
