Sunrise to Go: Olympic Edition -- Friday, February 7

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Winter Olympics continue today in Sochi, Russia and on NBC and WAVE 3 News! Here are five things you need to know about the games:

1. Opening Ceremony: After years of planning, the Sochi Olympics officially kick off tonight. Coverage begins at 7:30 p.m. Click here to find out what to expect.

2. Team USA's first day recap: Team figure skating and slopestyle (minus Shaun White) made their Olympic debuts on Thursday. Click here to see how Team USA fared on the first day of competition.

3. Kentucky Olympian: Bobsledder Dallas Robinson will represent the USA and Kentucky in the winter games. WAVE 3 News reporter Connie Leonard talked with the Georgetown, Kentucky resident and former U.S. Army Reserves sergeant about his Olympic dreams and got his family and friends to open up about their concerns about safety in Sochi.

4. Off-the-ice issues: Terrorism fears and Russia's anti-gay laws are the two biggest non-sports stories at the Winter Olympics. Click here to see how NBC will handle coverage of these important stories.

Now here are five other things Kentuckiana will be talking about today:

1. More snow on the way: A winter weather advisory will be in effect for most of WAVE Country beginning at 10:00 tonight, and we could see a small accumulation of snow over the weekend on top of what's already on the ground. WAVE 3 News Storm Tracking Team Meteorologist Christie Dutton is also keeping her eye on the frigid temperatures and how soon they'll start to warm up.

2. Closings and delays: School is still out or operating on a delayed schedule for thousands of Kentuckiana students. Click here for the full list of closings and delays. Several businesses are also affected.

3. Highlands hold up: Louisville Metro police say later today they will release the names of three bank robbery suspects, one of whom shot and killed himself, after officers cornered them in Cherokee Park on Thursday. The Highlands PNC Bank branch was held up just before 5 p.m. Thursday.

4. Animal adoptions: More than two dozen dogs and two cats seized from a puppy mill last month will be available for adoption beginning today at the Kentucky Humane Society.

5. One-Ring Scam: Cell phone users in Kentucky should be alert for a new scam called the "One-Ring Scam." Kentucky State Police say there are numerous reports of "ring and run" incidents on cell phones, and returning those missed calls can be costly for the cell phone owner.
