FORT KNOX, KY (WAVE) - The Fort Knox Exchange is a place the military and their families have come to rely on. Friday morning, soldiers and their families ignored the cold to come out for the grand reopening of the exchange.

The one stop shop is split into three sections: home, life and style. Colonel Thomas Edwards said the Exchange gives a sense of comfort and home.

"They're branded very similar and they provide a quality excellent product for our military, for our family members, and for our retirees," said Edwards. "When you walk in there you just kind of feel grounded. It's a ground zero if you will for that comfort level when everything else around you is chaotic and it's new."

The newly renovated store added Victoria's Secret, Bath and Body Works, Michael Kors and the PowerZone to the other usual items. Whether it's food, clothes or cosmetics the exchange has a everything.

"Our customers move a lot so when they come in after they've moved in they're looking for everything for their home," said Rick Fair, general manager of the Fort Knox Exchange. "Be it new toasters, small appliances, linens, cleaning supplies."

The finances from the store go right back into the store and in to the military.

"When you spend your dollars here it still gets reinvested back into the community," Edwards said. "That 3.5 million dollars they spent for this 94,000 square foot renovation, that money was all provided by the shoppers that shop here not by taxpayers dollars."

The exchange took seven months to renovate.
