LOUISVILE, KY (WAVE) – Louisville Metro Police have charged an 18-year-old man and a juvenile with the robbery and kidnapping of a person at gunpoint.

An arrest report says Kaelin Denza Akins was armed with a handgun when he and a juvenile approached the victim in the rear of the 1100 block of South Third Street around 8 p.m. January 30.

The two forced the man into his car and taped him up before driving to several locations around Louisville with the victim in the back of the vehicle.

Police said Akins and the juvenile took the victim's credit cards and purchased items a different Walmart stores.

About 4 ½ hours after kidnapping their victim, Akins and the teen left their victim on the side of the road at Bardstown Road and Hurstbourne Parkway.

By using surveillance video, detectives were able to identify Akins as one of the two involved. When he was arrested at his home on February 7, police recovered the stolen vehicle, clothing work by Akins on the night of the robbery and the items purchased at Walmart.

When questioned, detectives said Akins waived his rights and confessed to the crime.

Akins has been charged with two counts each of robbery, kidnapping and fraudulent use of a credit card. He will be back in court on February 18.
