CRESTWOOD, KY (WAVE) - Kentucky's only Olympian in the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi competed in his first event Sunday. Dallas Robinson represented the USA in the two-man bobsled heat over the weekend.

"This is my little boy, over there - doing what he always wanted to do. It's a dream," Robinson's mother Sandy Hartlage said.

The "event" encompasses four heats, two of which took place at Sunday.

Two additional runs occur Monday. All four times for each heat are calculated for the 2-man bobsled event.

"Somewhere in the back of my mind I knew he was always going to go. He's been searching for his dream for such a long time. We're just so proud of him," Hartlage said.

No matter the outcome, Robinson's Olympic experience may be summed up with his trademark pose.

"Two fingers - means for God and country," Hartlage said.

Photos often capture the U.S. Army Reserves Sergeant flashing what looks like a peace sign but represent much more. "He's proud of America and thankful for all his blessings," Hartlage said.

Robinson will represent Team USA in two events in Sochi, including the two-man and four-man bobsled teams as a push athlete.

USA qualified as the second fastest four-man team.

"We have a team motto and it's prepare to podium," Robinson told reporters in Sochi, "and we've been saying that for weeks and we've been pretty darn close to the podium and I think we're going to have a good crack at it and I'm pretty excited about that."
