PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) – The man charged in the Paragould shooting back in February was in court on Friday.

The Greene County Court said Paul Ben Sims' case was continued to April 1.

Police said Sims was arguing with Jason Ellis at his home located on the 600-block of East Poplar Street.

Sims then decided to fire his gun several times at Ellis. Police said Ellis was hurt when a bullet passed through the wall of the house and hit him.

Jeffery Lamar called Paragould police as the fight escalated in the middle of East Poplar.

"It all started out there was a big fight in the street. Everybody was yelling and cursing and throwing hands, and next thing you know we heard five shots get popped off and everybody started running and people screaming 'I'm shot! I'm shot!" and I just took off towards my house," he said.

Police told Region 8 News they found several bullet holes inside Ellis' home. They also said they found the gun used in the shooting in Sims' home.

Sims was charged with committing a terroristic act and first degree battery.

Since Sims is a convicted felon he is not allowed to have guns and was charged with possession of a firearm by certain persons.

His bond was set at one million dollars cash only.
