LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) -  Ten robberies in one month and the man thought to be behind them all, killed himself after being stopped by an officer.

Police are calling the suspect a serial robber.  The coroner has not yet released the suspects name.  Police said he robbed the Bowman Field Wine and Spirits, before killing himself Saturday night.

WAVE 3 obtained surveillance pictures of the suspect. Police say he robbed eight businesses, hitting some of them twice.  The Marathon Gas station off Poplar Level Road, was one of them.

"He came with a gun point and took the cash register money," said Marathon owner Bipin Patel. "Roughly around $1,600," said Patel. Patel's gas station was robbed on January 18th and February 8th.

"Information on the robber was put out and division officers were in the area," said LMPD Officer Carey Klain.

Police cars surrounded Strathmoor Boulevard and Dundee Road Saturday night, after an LMPD officer pulled over a white pickup truck because the driver was acting suspicious. Once that officer spoke with the driver, the officer realized he matched the description of the suspect wanted in Saturday night's robbery and other robberies in the past month.

That's when police said the suspect took out a gun and shot himself. He died at the scene.

Police believe the man behind the robberies hit gas stations, liquor, and convenience stores. Police believe it's the same man because in the surveillance pictures, he's wearing the same clothing.

"Every night and every day, each platoon and robbery had details just trying to locate this individual," said Officer Klain. "Some of the businesses had been repeated, where he'd gone back to, and someone who's robbing this much obviously is desperate."

LMPD's Public Integrity Unit is investigating.  This is the second recent incident where a robbery suspect killed himself after being pulled over by police.
