LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A suspected shoplifter was arrested after he tried to commit a theft at the same store less than two weeks apart.

An arrest warrant states that Cortez D. Ricketts, 21, took several Northface jackets from a display in Macy's at Oxmoor Center on February 5 and started to leave the store. After he was stopped while leaving the store by a loss prevention employee, Ricketts shoved the employee in an attempt to escape. The employee was able to detain Ricketts.

Louisville Metro Police recovered the merchandise, valued at $796. Ricketts was allowed to leave after police got his information. LMPD advised Macy's to file a criminal complaint against Ricketts.

Macy's employees recognized Ricketts from an earlier shoplifting case at the store. On January 25, 12 Northface jackets valued at $1,920 were taken from the store. Loss preventions employees said Ricketts was the person who got into a waiting car just outside the store doors. That same car was waiting to pick up Ricketts on February 5, but left after Ricketts was stopped by Macy's loss prevention.

Ricketts was arrested February 17 by state probation and parole officers. He is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections on two counts of theft by unlawful taking over $500.

The warrant says both shoplifting incidents were captured on the store video surveillance system.
